Is It Ever Okay Fire a Customer?
With the amount of time, effort, and expenses that go into acquiring a customer, a business would be crazy ever to cut ties with one of them. Or so you would think. However, some customers just aren’t worth the trouble they present to your staff, no matter how much money they spend on your services. When a client reaches this point, the smart business move is to fire them. So, what constitutes a good reason to fire a customer?
Demanding clients are a part of doing business; they come with the territory. A problematic client becomes a liability when they begin to require more time and energy than you can afford to give them. Devoting too much of either towards a customer can have a domino effect, and negatively impact your other clients, your staff’s morale, and your bottom line. Once a client crosses this line, it’s in your best interest as a business to part ways with them.
While it may seem counterproductive to part ways with a client, sometimes firing a customer is in the best interest of your business.
