Prepare and share an agenda in advance: Preparing an agenda in advance will save you a lot of time and energy by keeping you focused on the issues that matter.

Encourage openness: Employees must feel supported so they can be honest about anything they’re struggling with.

Ditch the distractions: Be fully present in the meeting, so turn off unnecessary electronics and notifications.

Leave the meetings with clear takeaways: Leave each meeting with expectations and timing for the next steps. And follow them up.

Be consistent: Having a one-on-one meeting is great, but it shouldn’t be a one-off. To be truly effective, meetings need to be recurring, perhaps weekly or bi-weekly.
