At Canon they strive to reduce the environmental burden at all stages of the product lifecycle. This is in line with the goals of our Environmental Vision ‘Action for Green’, which aims to provide highly functional products with minimal environmental burden. For Canon Oceania, as a sales and marketing company the biggest lifecycle impacts relate to carbon emissions and disposal of products at the end of life. The environmental management system is focused largely on reducing these impacts.

Through the Cartridges for Planet Ark Program Canon collects over 700,000 used ink and toner cartridges each year from its customers directly and through collection locations hosted by retail partners such as Australia Post and Officeworks. Generally the cartridges are recycled by Close the Loop, achieving a zero waste to landfill outcome. But in 2015, we developed a program to collect and refurbish the waste toner containers from the most popular Multi-Function Devices (MFD) for reuse in our service program. We expect this program will save money for our customers as well as reducing our environmental impact.
